Kia Ora and Welcome. Thanks to everyone who came to visit the Hut over Open House London weekend: we had over 200 visitors to the School over the 2 days with tours of the building finishing up in our Shakespeare Hut installation. From now until the end of LSHTM week 19th – 23rd September we invite you to drop in for a visit and send a postcard to let someone you love know you are safe and well.
Letter-writing played an important part in boosting morale during the War. The YMCA huts provided materials for servicemen to make it easy to let the folks back home know they had arrived safely. Officers were on hand in some of the huts to help those less able to write and the Shakespeare Hut had an impressive shop where our Anzac visitors could buy postcards as well as other supplies. Just drop the postcard into the box on top of the wooden bureau where you can also sign the visitor’s book and we’ll collect them up, put a stamp on and send them on their way when the installation comes down on Friday night.
If you are of a more digital persuasion, there is still time to take a selfie in the Hut and send it with #Shakespearehut @HLFLondon to be added to our project website where you can read all the press coverage and comments from our many visitors from around the world who have dropped by over the Summer.
