Now is the hour….

IMG_0638[1]We have had the first readthrough of the script for our Centenary Day event: it’s exciting to see what has emerged from all our visits to the various archives – reading letters sent from the Shakespeare Hut, trawling through YMCA green books, finding images of wounded soldiers arriving at the Hut and of the women who worked there to create a ‘home from home’ for these servicemen on leave. The National Theatre Archive revealled more about the proposed plans of the building and Ellen Terry’s personal archive tells of the great actress’s visits to perform with other stars of the West End stage including Maxine and Gertrude Elliott.
With the promise of more to come as August approaches, I’m looking forward to seeing how this all develops.  The hunt is now on for flags and more ephemera from the period and if anyone has a Brown Betty Teapot they can lend me, do let me know!
